10 Artisanal Beauty Products to Have On Your Radar

“Artisanal” is everywhere and applied to everything from bacon and vodka, to cheese and chocolate. In the beauty world, artisanal equates to brands whipping up handmade or small-batch products, usually crafted from natural ingredients, that tend to be organic and often vegan. They’re often free from preservatives, additives, chemicals and synthetics.

These alchemists, who often work from home, are cooking up an array of lip balms, soaps, face masks, serums, and even perfumes. Some are creating products they see an immediate need for, while other are filling serious gaps in the marketplace. Brooklyn-based Rachel Winard of Soapwalla, began experimenting in her own kitchens when she couldn’t find the right product for her own sensitive skin. Brent Leonesio of Smell Bent, on the other hand, started mixing his own scents as the thought the perfume industry took itself too seriously and needed a packaging overhaul.
But there are plenty of reasons to consider an artisanal brands, apart from the ingredients and unique products. It’s not too often that a shopper can communicate directly with the person blending their own face mask. Plus, it’s cool to support an indie entrepreneur.
