Dana Oliver, Beauty Director
Carol’s Daughter Pracaxi Nectar Curl Twisting Custard. Lisa Price is a national treasure. Taking her beauty empire from her Brooklyn kitchen to the shelves of Target, Ulta, and CVS, Price has whipped up some of the best-smelling hair, body, and skin concoctions. Her latest curl twisting custard gives my tightly coiled hair amazing definition and imparts incredible shine. ($12, carolsdaughter.com)
Ginger + Liz Nail Lacquer in Chase Me. Ginger Johnson and Liz Pickett are the two brilliant black women behind this vegan-friendly and toxin-free nail line. Bursting with beautiful and bold polish shades that are brown-girl-approved, my go-to spring pedicure color is this electric turquoise. ($12, gingerandliz.com)
Fanm Djamn Head Wraps. The brand’s name alone (“Strong Woman” in Haitian Kreyòl) was enough to speak volumes to my inner queen. But the moment I met Fanm Djamn founder Paola Mathé, I knew I had to upgrade my current head wrap collection. The Haitian beauty fuses her culture into these Harlem-made head wraps to create truly stunning pieces. As a Leo, I naturally gravitate to the Spots design. ($24, fanmdjanm.com)
Lit Brooklyn Beau Candle. Lord knows I can’t resist an intoxicating candle. Ever since Christina Brown of LoveBrownSugar introduced me to Danequa Williams’s Lit Brooklyn line, I’ve been entranced. The Beau fragrance is a warm blend of all my favorite notes: sandalwood, leather, and tobacco. ($30, litbklyn.co)
Beth Greenfield, Senior Lifestyle Writer
Juice Beauty Ultra-Natural Mascara. I love that this mascara, from company founder Karen Behnke, is nontoxic, vegan, rich, and long-lasting, and has sleek and shiny packaging. I have very sensitive eyes and trouble finding mascara that doesn’t irritate them; this is one of the few that both works well and is gentle enough for me. ($22, juicebeauty.com)
BOOM! By Cindy Joseph Boomstick Color. I love the concept behind this entire line of products from the inspiring makeup artist turned model turned entrepreneur Cindy Joseph — that cosmetics should be for celebrating and highlighting your natural beauty rather than trying to fix flaws. I also particularly love this convenient color stick, which is sheer enough to work with any complexion and can be used as either a lipstick or an eyelid or cheek highlighter. I have two, so there’s always one available in a pinch! ($27, boombycindyjoseph.com)
Susan Posnick ColorFlo Mineral Foundation. This travel-friendly pop-up brush brings a barely there vegan, natural, and cruelty-free powder foundation with it, providing full coverage (plus SPF coverage and vitamins A and E!) that gives a weightless matte finish. This is the only foundation I’ll wear, because it doesn’t feel like you’ve got anything on your face beyond a light dusting of powder. I also love Posnick’s backstory — that she was an A-list makeup artist who turned her personal experience with cancer into a cosmetics business based on the idea of built-in sun protection. ($68, susanposnick.com)
Rachel Grumman Bender, Beauty and Style Writer/Editor
Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30. I’m a big Supergoop fan. The brand was founded by Holly Thaggard after her close friend was diagnosed with melanoma at a young age. I use their products daily, from the Forever Young Body Butter SPF 40 to their hand cream with SFP 40, which I always keep in my car for quick touchups. But my favorite is the City Sunscreen Serum. It offers lightweight, nongreasy sun protection, and I don’t have to use a moisturizer with it, which saves this busy, fair-skinned mom a step. ($42, Supergoop.com)
Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon. My makeup bag is bursting with Charlotte Tilbury products, but one of my favorites is her Colour Chameleon eyeshadow stick. It glides on rich color in seconds flat. I have it in five colors — from Golden Quartz to Amethyst Aphrodisiac — and each one is equally flattering. ($27, charlottetilbury.com)
Jane Iredale LipDrink Lip Balm. I’m all about multitasking products. So a lip balm with a hint of color and SPF 15? Sign me up. Jane Iredale’s LipDrink Lip Balm provides all three, and I’m in love with the berrylike Crush color. I have them stashed in several purses and in my car in case I dash out of the house and need a pop of lip color. ($15, janeiredale.com)
Joanna Vargas Rejuvenating Serum. I used to be leery about face oils (oil? On your face?), but after trying Joanna Vargas Rejuvenating Serum a few years ago, I became a convert. The serum, which is full of plant-based oils, absorbs quickly without leaving any greasy residue and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. Bonus: My makeup goes on smoother, too. ($100, joannavargas-skincare.com)
Donna Freydkin, Celebrity Style Editor
Tata Harper Skincare Products. Everything is sourced from her farm and smells heavenly, and you feel good about putting her serums and creams on your face and eyes. Plus, there’s no chemical odor to anything, which is refreshing. (tataharperskincare.com)
Jillian Dempsey Lid Tints. They are super high-quality and easy to apply. I barely wear makeup, but when I do, I want it to be self-explanatory. This product is it. ($28, violetgrey.com)
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum. Your skin drinks it in, and you can actually recognize the ingredients on the container. Actress Kristin Davis and I bonded over our mutual love of the brand (and, no, neither of us was paid). ($90, sephora.com)
Joanna Vargas Rejuvenating Serum. This brand is beloved by Naomi Watts and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Basically, it’s like Physique 57 for your face. It leaves your face feeling 20 years younger and more refreshed. ($100, joannavargas-skincare.com)
Tanya Edwards, Health and Beauty Editor-at-Large
Kristin Ess Dry Texture Finishing Spray. Picked up the Kristin Ess Dry Texture Finishing Spray at Target while I was traveling and desperate. My favorite hair ‘grammer and hair guru delivered. Spray at the roots to give fine hair all the texture. Sleek design and a $14 price tag have made this a new fave. ($14, target.com)
Charlotte Cho Neogen Real Fresh Green Tea Cleansing Stick. I pack Charlotte Cho’s Neogen Real Fresh Green Tea Cleansing Stick when I’m on the go. The stick passes through airport security easily, the natural oils provide a great cleanse, and the tea exfoliates, helping banish sad travel face. ($22, sokoglam.com)
Tatcha Pore Perfecting Water Gel Moisturizer. This daily gel founded by Victoria Tsai is my go-to during the T-zone-aggravating summer months. This gel goes on light and smooth, hydrates like crazy, and creates the perfect soft and moisturized starting point for low-key spring/summer looks. ($68, tatcha.com)
Devon Kelley, Assistant Health and Beauty Editor
Glossier Haloscope in Quartz. This minimal-effort highlighter makes my dry skin look dewy, never shimmery or oily. Wear it on a day when your skin looks tired and you’ll get more compliments than before. ($22, glossier.com)
Milk Makeup Face Gloss. I love amping up the glow on my highlighter with a swipe of face gloss, or wearing this over my lids and cheekbones, paired with a matte red lip. Milk is an all-natural brand, so I like smearing this all over my face and feeling squeaky clean and organically nourished. ($20, milkmakeup.com)
RMS Lip2Cheek in Modest. Matchy lips and cheeks are my go-to for a look that’s interesting but easy. I have a tendency to use lipsticks on my cheeks anyway, but this multitasking product has a sheer formula that’s perfectly buildable. Plus, there are no weird ingredients in it, so you don’t have to worry about swallowing a bit of product with your coffee (it’s inevitable). ($25, rmsbeauty.com)
Tata Harper Rejuvenating Serum. This plumping serum gives you the smoothest texture and makes you smell like a bouquet — because that’s what it’s made out of. ($98, tataharperskincare.com)
Soapwalla Deodorant Cream. I’ve tried just about every natural deodorant out there, and I’m convinced that this one works better than any aluminum-filled deodorant. ($14, soapwallakitchen.com)
Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase. If you just can’t manage to fall asleep on your back but want to avoid sleep creases and bad hair days, you need this pillowcase, made from the highest grade silk out there. ($79, slipsilkpillowcase.com)
Jacqueline Laurean Yates, Beauty Editor
The Lip Bar Liquid Matte Lip Color in Prima Donna. In all my years of working in the beauty industry so far, I have rarely found a deep plum lip pick that didn’t give beetle juice vibes on me. I’m so happy founder Melissa Butler created this purple hue that’s brown-girl-friendly and hella sexy when worn. ($13, thelipbar.com)
Smith & Cult Nail Polish in Glass Souls. I can’t lie, to be perfectly honest, the packaging on these polishes initially caught my attention because they they looked so darn fancy. But aside from the luxe design, there are actually a plethora of really pretty shades. The Glass Souls glitter is something like I’ve never seen, and the silver and gold flecks makes it feel like you’re wearing the best disco party in the world on your nails. Very unicornlike too. ($18, smithandcult.com)
Sonia Kashuk Brushes & Tools. I can always count on Sonia’s line of brushes to get the job done. Just about every season, there are new design, and the hairs on the brushes tend to hold up really well. Plus, the price of these babies is always right. What more could you ask for? (target.com)
Aerin Rose Body Wash. Anything rose-scented is probably going to be a yes for me. But this body wash makes me smell like a budding baby rose (if that makes sense) fresh out the shower. It cleanses the skin and leaves behind an alluring fragrance I can’t get enough of. Double win. No wonder it’s almost always sold out. ($50, aerin.com)
