3-Ingredient DIY Moisturizer to Make Your Skin Stop Freaking Out
When sweater weather was but a distant dream, we were trying not to think about the dry skin that comes with it. Fall is gorgeous and crisp but keeps your skin in a constant state of flux. We’ve teamed up with holistic nutritionist Dorit Jaffe of Whole Healthy Glow to bring you a solution that won’t clog your pores, irritate your skin, or cost you an arm and a leg.
The miracle ingredient of this moisturizer is shea butter. Its fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamins make it extremely nourishing and moisturizing, and it even helps balance the pH on your body’s outer layer. You don’t need to worry about abandoning your chemical-filled anti-aging creams in favor of shea butter — it aids in collagen production to improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Even acne-prone skin is safe here, thanks to almond and lavender oils. Almond oil is rich in vitamin E, fatty acids, skin-healthy proteins, potassium, and even has natural zinc. It’s hypoallergenic and safe enough to use even on sensitive baby skin. When used regularly, it can protect your skin from UV damage and oxidative stress, keeping you soft and smooth. Lavender oil can even help heal your redness, inflammation, and acne scarring. It inhibits bacteria from forming and helps to regulate hormonal oils in your skin. Tea tree oil is another great addition to this moisturizer if you’re dealing with breakouts. Seasonal transition skin is the worst, here’s to keeping your hands from flaking and nose from chapping.
Homemade Cold-Weather Moisturizer Recipe:
Ingredients:
? Cup organic Shea butter
2 Tablespoons almond oil
10-15 Drops lavender essential oil
3 Drops tea tree essential oil (optional)
Instructions
Melt shea butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat and stir in almond oil. Make sure not to boil the oil mixture, just heat enough to melt. Remove from heat once melted together.
Pour this mixture into a bowl and place in the freezer. Remove once mixture has solidified, after about 15-20 minutes.
Add the essential oils to the same bowl as the Shea butter mixture and use a hand blender to whisk mixture until soft and fluffy like buttery whipped cream. Be careful not to over-whip, it doesn’t take long to reach a heavy consistency.
Scoop your moisturizer into a glass jar and store at room temperature.
