A $1,000 Facial that Promises Oscar Ready Skin

If an “Oscar-ready” complexion is the benchmark of perfectly toned, even and glowing skin, then it’s no surprise that skincare specialists are creating comprehensive treatments to give anyone red carpet ready skin.
The latest launch in this category is from Gina Mari, the Beverly Hills based esthetician who specializes in customized facials. Dubbed “The Statuette”, the name pretty much says it all. The service is made up of nine steps (that’s everything on Mari’s menu except for four other services) that are designed to plump, hydrate, and even out skin instantly.
First up are basic extractions, to clean and prep the skin for the combo of lights, serums, and currents to come. Then come two types of microdermabrasion. Mari combs over the entire face and body with a diamond tip microdermabrasion wand, resurfacing the skin to ensure that the extremities and back look glowing and even. “Someone might not know what dress they’re going to wear, so you want the skin to look good from head to toe,” she says.
Next, a wet microdermabrasion, which takes the serum Mari chooses specifically for each client (mine was packed with vitamin C to help with pigmentation and brightness) pushed into skin, then sucked right back out.
Feeling clean and conditioned, the microcurrent treatment follows, providing a tingling sensation. Mari takes two wands, one with a positive charge and the other with a negative, that bounce into the muscles’ origin point for an instant lift. She then makes small circles around the eye area to deliver currents and ultimately firm and tighten bags. The first setting of microcurrent targets superficial fine lines and the second addresses firmness and deep wrinkles.
It’s certainly not painful, just bizarre, and upon comparing the completed eye to the other, it has immediately noticeable results. Of all of the steps, this one makes the biggest difference for looking bright eyed—at least for the next three days.
Mari follows the microcurrent step with a slathering of vitamin serums over the entire face. Next, it is oxygen therapy, which delivers even more vitamins as well as jojoba and other nutrient rich enzymes to the skin. She applies the oxygen under hyperbaric pressure, which delivers serums directly to skin meaning it can temporarily fill in lines and wrinkles. I notice that after the oxygen, the crow’s feet that appear when I smile are considerably less.
With goggles over my eyes, a session of LED lights follows. First blue, which helps kill acne and blemish causing bacteria, then red which works to eliminate wrinkles. The lights are bright and the warm, cocoon-like setting lulls me to semi-sleep. I am awakened to another round of vitamin serum and a final layer of silky moisturizer and sent on my way with incredibly perked up and radiant skin. The only problem? The experience comes with a Hollywood price tag, at $1000 a pop.
