If you’ve ever envied the Kardashians’ ultra long and thick lashes and concluded that your genes have failed you, think again. We’ve cracked the code to dramatic lashes and met the woman behind all the smoke and mirrors. Huda Kattan is a beauty guru turned entrepreneur and the creator of Huda Beauty. Her eponymous false lash brand has been seen on all the Kardashians (except for Kourtney, who’s definitely missing out). Until recently, Huda lashes were only available in the Middle East, but after being introduced to the U.S. through Sephora in September, they are red carpet regulars and can be seen on nearly every celebrity with intense lashes. “I’ll go through Getty Images sometimes and say to my sisters, ‘OMG look, so-and-so is wearing Samantha lashes here,’ or, ‘oh my gosh those are the Alyssa lashes,’” Kattan told Yahoo Beauty. “Since we have very distinct lashes I can see that many of the celebrities who wear them once choose to buy them and use them over and over again.”

Kattan has developed a cult following, and her Instagram account boasts 7.7 million followers. It’s no surprise, since her beauty look is strikingly similar to Kim and Kylie’s signature style. Falsies may not be feasible or desirable for your everyday lifestyle, but with the holidays around the corner they’re a fun way to play up your eyes for a bold and glamorous look. Here’s a lesson from a definite beauty queen on selecting the style that’s right for you and caring for your lashes — real and false, to turn up the volume on your beauty look.
Prep: “The best way to apply eyelashes really begins with finding the right lash for your eye,” Kattan tells Yahoo Beauty. “I always opt for a more natural lash for beginners and go more dramatic with more make up for experienced clients. You can start by curling your eyelashes with an eyelash curler, placing it as closely to your lash bed as possible.” Her line of lashes includes 16 different styles in varying lengths, materials, and thicknesses. Seven styles can now be purchased at Sephora, so there’s likely a perfect fit for you.

Application, Step 1: “Remove the lashes from the tray and slightly wiggle the lash band back-and-forth. This will help loosen up any of the glue that may have caused the lash to be slightly stiff.”
Step 2: “By placing the lash against your eye, you can measure the lash and also test the application and how the lash will appear when it is actually glued on,” says Kattan. “If any of the lash band seems a bit too long you can simply snip off a small amount from the outer corners.”
Step 3: “Apply a small amount of lash glue. It’s very important not to apply too much or too little. You want to just fully coat the lash band and make sure that the band is slightly dry before applying. It should be tacky.”
Step 4: “Next, apply to your lash bed. I usually like to lay the lashes just on the lash bed and then position it in place starting from the outer corner and then carefully aligning the inner corner in place,” she says. “Lastly, you can apply a small amount of mascara if needed.” After they’re on, they can stay there for awhile. Kattan says that hers need no adjustment even during 12-14 hour workdays when her makeup needs to be perfect the entire time.

Remove: “Applying false lashes can definitely cause your lashes to fall out, but using a cotton swab and a little make up remover can really help with this process,” says Kattan. “You can also try using a lash vitamin like Revitalash, I’ve been wearing lashes now for 10 years and my lashes are better than when I started because I take great care of them!”

Maintain: Kattan says you can wear the more delicate lashes three to five times, and the thicker bands of lashes can be worn around 15 times. If you want to optimize the number of wears, you’ve got to care for them properly. “It is very important to try to apply as little mascara and glue on them as possible,” she says. “You only want to apply what is necessary.” A great way to avoid applying mascara to the falsies is to put it on your real lashes before applying the false ones, which will make the lashes blend better without damaging them. “Mascara can add drama to your false lashes, so if you do wish to apply it directly on the false lashes, make sure to only apply it the first time and not after you reapply the false lashes time and time again,” Kattan adds. If you’re looking for a red carpet-worthy holiday beauty look, Huda Beauty Lashes is a no-brainer.
