A Mother Threw Her Daughter a Party to Celebrate Getting Her Period
One Florida mother celebrated the arrival of her 12-year-old daughter’s period in a big way. Shelly Lee threw her daughter Brooke a party complete with a cake that read, “Congrats on your period,” to celebrate the milestone.
Brooke’s cousin, 17-year-old Autumn Jenkins, took photos and posted them on Twitter, captioning the post: “Brooke started her period today & my family is super extra.” The tweet has since gone viral, reaching more than 15,000 likes.
In one of the images, Brooke can be seen posing next to her cake and boxes of tampons and pads. The chocolate cake was selected by Lee because it contained “serotonin in it to help her with Brooke’s first period,” Autumn told BuzzFeed News.
Lee knew her daughter was “anxious” to start menstruating, so she wanted to do something to help her celebrate the occasion. “I wanted to make this event a little more fun!” she told BuzzFeed.
Brooke was apparently unfazed by the event. “This is just a normal thing for our family to do,” she told BuzzFeed. Autumn also weighed in on the party, telling the outlet that Lee “always makes sure to make the best memories out of everything, and Brooke’s period was one for the books.”
Many complimented Lee’s gesture and praised the family for offering their support.
