Actress Kiersey Clemons Shares Her Beauty Routine
By Lexi Novak
If you’ve seen this tiny little show called Transparent—you know, the one that’s exploding across the interwebs—then you’ve probably noticed actress Kiersey Clemons as Bianca, a talented young musician. Ever heard of the new MTV show with Victoria Justice called Eye Candy? Yep, Clemons is in that one, too. And this talented up-and-comer gives a stellar performance in the indie film Dope, out this June (she also collaborated with Pharrell Williams on the movie’s soundtrack). I talked to the Clemons about acting, beauty, and the products she can’t live without.
Breakout role: “Things really picked up when I did local theater. I played Sandy in Grease, and after that, my mom let me get an agent. My turning-point role: the black Sandy.”
Singing style: “It’s probably like Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn. I really like classic actresses who would sing in their movies. I was just watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s the other day, and you wouldn’t even know that Audrey Hepburn wasn’t a singer, because she’s so good in it.”

Dream childhood job: “Teacher.”
Guilty pleasure: “Chocolate. I was half asleep the other night and asked my friend to get me some. Then I woke up with a bag of mini Crunch bars.”
Beauty icon: “There are so many cool people on Instagram, and they’re all beauty icons. Chrissy [Teigen] is my favorite. Her skin is always glowing. And she’s always smiling and happy.”
Valentine’s Day or Halloween: “Halloween. I love watching scary movies, like Insidious. Or movies where something scary happens in the shower and for days, you’re afraid to wash your face because you don’t want to close your eyes.”
Or you’re scared to close the medicine cabinet because of what you might see in the mirror. “Girl, I don’t even have a medicine cabinet.”

Beauty ritual: “Washing my face. I can’t ever just fall asleep at someone’s house or do a spontaneous slumber party, because I have to go back home and do my facial routine. I use makeup remover to take off my makeup, and then I just wash my face in hot water. Then it’s the serums and oils that are important. I use theBobbi Brown skin serum. I use apple-cider vinegar and witch hazel. And then I have argan oil and rose-hip oil to moisturize. That’s all during the day. At nighttime, I also have to lock in my Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. It’s very serious for me.”
Favorite hair products: “When you have curly hair—I read it online—it’s called LOC: leave-in conditioner, oil, and then cream. So I do It’s a 10, Moroccanoil, and then Pillow Curls. It looks like you just woke up out of bed and you’re good to go. But secretly you put some shit in your hair.”
Workout: “I recently signed up for pole dancing. We’re all half naked, we’re all different sizes and ages, and we’re all kind of insecure, so we encourage each other. It’s fun. That’s probably what’s keeping me fit considering I’m eating chocolate in my sleep.”
