Like many other now-advocates of all things natural beauty, it took a major life event — in Valerie Grandury’s case a breast cancer diagnosis — to inspire change. “I decided to remove toxins from my life,” she says. “But I wasn’t able to find any skincare products that were aligned with my French, results-driven philosophy.” She started blending her own products and Odacité was born.
At first, Grandury was just mixing up skincare concoctions for herself and a few private clients, but demand grew quickly because the products really worked. Why? Her customization philosophy. “Working one on one with private clients for many years taught me that nobody has just one skin type,” says Grandury. “In reality your skin is evolving all the time based on factors like weather, pollution, diet, hormones and stress. The only strategy to achieve a flawless complexion is to customize your skin routine to answer each day’s specific concerns.”
Grandury created a collection of eighteen concentrated serums designed to target particular issues. Out too late last night? Try a few drops of Vital Glow Wild Carrots Serum. Feel a zit brewing on your chin? The Black Cumin Cajeput Pimple Serum will be your new best friend. “The idea that you can just use the same cream for three months and see results is a myth,” says Grandury. “Just like you wouldn’t eat the same food every day, you need to feed your skin with different nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants for optimum results.”
You can apply a few drops (she recommends starting with 2-3) of these serums directly to the skin or mix them with your existing products. The founder has also just added a supercharged Oleosome Time Release Delivery Creme (a simple unscented moisturizer) to her line that helps the concentrates to penetrate deep into the skin and continue to release their actives throughout the day (or night).
Of course, choosing from 18 different options can feel a little overwhelming. Here, Grandury shares her prescriptions for four common skincare concerns:
Anti-Aging: Being in my late 50s, I like to alternate between four serums. The Acai Rose is good for a shot of antioxidants and to address tone, texture and firmness. The Wild Carrot creates a fresh, healthy glow. The Rosehip Ylang Ylang for a dose of Vitamin C to boost collagen production and reduce wrinkles and the Blueberry Jasmine for cellular energy.
Radiance: I love to prescribe the Green Tea Lemongrass Serum because it works on all skin types and instantly awakens the radiance of your skin. A lot of makeup artists use it as a primer because it creates a beautiful canvas.
Dryness: The Moringa Petitgrain will quench even the thirstiest skin.
Sensitivity: Camelina Chamomile works to soothe and calm sensitive complexions.
