Ariana Grande is the latest star to address body shamers on Instagram. The singer took to her account today to reply to a follower who stated he prefers actress Ariel Winter over Grande because “curves are sexy sticks aren’t.” Grande posted the comment to her account along with a response saying, “Sigh…. tweets, comments, statements like this are not okay. About anyone!!! We live in a day and age where people make it IMPOSSIBLE for women, men, anyone to embrace themselves exactly how they are. Diversity is sexy! Loving yourself is sexy! You know what is NOT sexy? Misogyny, objectifying, labeling, comparing and body shaming!!!”

Winter also addressed the commenter on her account, reposting Grande’s photo with a caption that read: “ Thank you @arianagrade for posting this. I love the message you’re putting out there. I especially believe in today’s world we all need to stick together. I believe in EMPOWERING other women and not putting them down.”
Winter has been open about self-confidence and body issues in the past, talking about her recent breast reduction surgery in an interview with Glamour magazine. “It’s hard when you’re a teenage girl and you already have a lot of ridicule and then you pile on more, and it’s kind of…it just gets too much,” she told Glamour. “That’s pretty much all I was known for and that upset me. It made me feel really uncomfortable because as women in the industry, we are totally over sexualized and treated like objects.”
It’s refreshing to see these two stars joining forces to address this form of online bullying while empowering one another. Recently, model Gigi Hadid also took to Instagram to address the criticism she receives over her build. Grande finished her post and hit the point home saying, “The things that make us different from one another make us beautiful.”
