Diego Boneta may look familiar. Despite being 24, the entertainer has been in the public eye for more than a decade. He’s appeared on hit TV shows like Pretty Little Liars, movies such as Rock of Ages, and the soap opera Rebelde. In 2006, he was named Best New Artist by MTV Awards Latin America. His latest TV show, Scream Queens, debuts Tuesday, September 22 on FOX. In the new horror-comedy series which revolves around murders in Kappa Kappa Tau sorority, Boneta is cast alongside big names like Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Nick Jonas, Ariana Grande and Jamie Lee Curtis.

When he’s not acting or belting out tunes (he is currently recording an album), Boneta is a travel junkie. “My biggest passion, and my favorite thing to do when I’m not acting or singing, is traveling,” says the Mexico City native. “I learn more about people in another culture by putting myself in situations I’m not comfortable in.” Boneta is speaking from experience, the actor has ventured to destinations like Barcelona, Brazil, Malaysia and Australia. “I find out more and more about myself as well,” says Boneta, who has partnered with Marriott International’s #LoveTravels social movement. The campaign encourages wanderlusts to share their tales of takeoffs and landings. “I have so many stories that changed my life, thanks to travel,” says the former reality star. “I think that’s the best way to learn, period.”

We sat down with Boneta to talk Scream Queens.

Yahoo Beauty: What is it like working with Scream Queens co-stars, Emma Roberts and Lea Michele?

Diego Boneta: They are super talented and beautiful in their own ways. It’s great to be a part of a cast where we are all pretty much the same age. We have a lot of stuff going on. It’s very motivating to be on that set. There’s so much variety.

Have you learned any thing from Jamie Lee Curtis?

Jamie Lee Curtis is a class act. She is the best. She’s amazing because she’s a natural beauty. She’s so confident, which makes her even more beautiful. She’s amazing to work with, as far as professionally how humble, and how much she loves what she does. I find that quality; being hard working, in all of the biggest actors. They all share that. That’s why they are where they are. Jamie Lee is thoughtful.

How so?

The other day, I was asking about classic movies to watch, as an actor, just to learn. I asked, “What’s your list?” She was like, “Let me think about it.” Two days later, I walk into my apartment. There is a stack of movies Jamie bought for me, with a nice note.

Scream Queens has a lot of women in its cast.

It’s a show that is so female driven; it’s great. One of the biggest messages in Scream Queens is the feminist, “hashtag girl power.” That message is there, to be yourself. Be confident. All that stuff is there, which I think is pretty cool.

What was it like working with the ladies of Pretty Little Liars?

That was the second thing I’d done for TV in the states. They were all really, really nice to me. Today, I’ll bump into them. They’re very sweet. Ashley Benson came to the Rock of Ages premiere. We all had drinks afterwards. When I bump into Lucy, it’s great. I have a really fond memory of working on that show.

What do Mexican men consider beautiful?

Not only Mexican men, but for Latin men, whether you are from Latin America or from Europe, family is important.

What other qualities does it take to be your significant other?

Me, personally, I am really attracted to confident, independent women. I want a girl who wants to be with me, not needs to be with me. I really like that passion of having your mind set on a goal. I really respond to that – that’s very important to me.

Do you tend to be attracted to a certain look?

On the outside, I don’t have a type. I like blondes. I like brunettes. To me, a lot of it is the eyes, smile. Being an actor, I’ve been very fortunate to work with many beautiful women. Sometimes it’s the [woman] that is maybe not as [physically] beautiful but has that personality; they’re funny, they’re confident, they love what they do so much. They become prettier and prettier with every day that goes by. To me, that’s way more interesting.

What have you learned about beauty, while traveling?

I’ll have an idea of what I think beauty is to me, and then I’ll travel to a new country and that perspective can totally change, completely. It can change from the culture, to the people inside and out, to the girls, too. It’s something that’s always changing. My first time in Asia, for a movie I did, it completely opened my mind to a totally different culture than what I’m used to. All of a sudden, you just become more open.
