Beauty Blogger Jackie Aina Is Here With a Lesson on Hair Shrinkage
Beauty blogger Jackie Aina took to Twitter on Wednesday to debunk a myth about her hair. The YouTuber is known to her over 1 million subscribers for her immaculate beauty tips, as well as her political voice within the black beauty community. And in her most recent post, she started quite the conversation about shrinkage.
people used to tell me "your hair has stayed the same length for years, why doesn't it grow?! ". Well there's that theory debunked pic.twitter.com/6HqOWtKsLu

In a series of four photos collaged together, Aina showed off the growth of her hair from 2014 up until now, as well as the contrast between her hair styled naturally and straight. “People used to tell me ‘your hair has stayed the same length for years, why doesn’t it grow?!’ Well there’s that theory debunked,” she wrote.
Throughout the replies Aina clarifies that she hasn’t taken a straightening iron to her hair since 2014, and both times, it was done by a stylist. However, the length of her hair certainly has changed, you just wouldn’t notice it so much when it’s natural – and that’s what shrinkage is.
I swear people forget that shrinkage is a thing.

Shrinkage simply explains the coiling that takes place in each of the hair’s curls, which allows the hair to appear shorter than it would be stretched out. When the hair is exposed to certain conditions, whether it be water, heat, or humidity, it essentially protects itself by bouncing back up. Shrinkage is merely the reality of natural hair, a look that Aina proudly rocks.
that's my natural curl pattern, I use the Kinky Curly detangler and the Curling Custard to get extra definition
