Beauty Blogger Shares Struggle With Acne; We Fall in Love With Her Honesty
Those who suffer from acne have heard it all before. Yes, we do wash, and, yes, we have tried that common off-the-shelf treatment (all of them).
So, when seemingly flawless beauty blogger Katie Snooks began vlogging about her struggles with acne, we welcomed her as a breath of fresh air.
The fashion and beauty blogger, who has struggled with painful acne for 10 years, has put her normal makeup tutorials aside to film her skin every day and talk about her insecurities while taking the medication Roaccutane.
Roaccutane (a pill also known as Accutane or Isotretinoin) is strong stuff. It’s only available through a dermatologist and is used to treat severe acne by reducing inflammation and buildup.
One cycle can last for more than five months and, like many acne medications, comes with some heavy side effects — 80 percent of people who take it experience things like depression, liver problems, nose bleeds, and cracked lips.
Snooks said she’s filming these “skin diaries” to “get rid of some of the bad stigma around this medicine and show the reality instead of horror stories.”
“The side effects can be really intense, so I wanted to document my journey on this medicine because I know I found videos like this so helpful when I started taking the pills — I wanted to document this journey for those of you out there who are also going through this journey to clear skin,” she said.
From the very first video, Snooks details her reactions to the medication through the highs and lows, and it gets pretty emotional at points.
She plans to be on the medication for the next six months and to document the entire ordeal daily on her YouTube channel.
