The Best Electronic Makeup Brushes, Ranked
Beauty novices are using everything from hard-boiled eggs to the red soles of Christian Louboutin stilettos to put on their makeup. While synthetic or natural bristle brushes, sponges, and even fingertips are considered “normal” tools that can be used to apply cosmetics, people are more than willing to try whatever is in arm’s reach to achieve a perfectly painted face.
Electronic makeup brushes are the perfect addition to your beauty routine if you desire more seamless foundation, concealer, highlighter, or blush-blending sessions. They also cut down on the amount of time it can take to apply your makeup.
While electronic makeup brushes aren’t new, more are being launched. So you don’t have to play guessing games to figure out which tool is right for you, or if it’s even worth your money, Yahoo Beauty tested four of the best electronic makeup brushes.
The good news? Each brush proved to blend faster than our usual makeup brushes. The not-so-good news? We found it more difficult to get to hard-to-reach areas of the face such as the inner corners of the eyes. Keep reading to get all the details on how well each worked and ranked.
Best Electronic Makeup Brush No. 1: Clarisonic Sonic Foundation Brush Head
If you already have a Clarisonic cleansing brush that you love, you will more than likely fall head over heels for this interchangeable makeup brush head that works in a similar fashion. Instead of cleansing makeup away from your face, the Sonic Foundation Head can transform any Clarisonic cleansing device into your makeup blending BFF.
Using a whopping 18,000 microblends per minute, the brush easily glides across the face, and in less than 60 seconds a few drops of foundation blend in. The bristles are gentle enough that they don’t irritate the skin, and you are left with an airbrush-like finish. Out of all the electronic makeup brushes, this one proved to have the most mind-blowing results. ($35, clarisonic.com)
Best Electronic Makeup Brush No. 2: Michael Todd Beauty Sonicblend Antimicrobial Sonic Makeup Brush
For starters, we found it quite fascinating that you had the option of adjusting the speed of the Michael Todd Beauty Sonicblend Antimicrobial Sonic Makeup Brush. There are three speeds: low, medium, and high. Knowing that you can adjust the oscillation eliminates the intimidation factor. Plus, the ergonomic design makes it easy to hold and very comforting to use.
The bristles penetrate foundation smoothly and leave skin streak-free. If you are a sucker for packaging, this brush also offers four cool and funky designs. ($79, michaeltoddbeauty.com)
Best Electronic Makeup Brush No. 3: blendSMART2 Rotating Foundation Brush
The blendSMART2 Rotating Foundation Brush offers different brush heads for powder, blush, foundation, full coverage foundation, and defining, and all of them magnetically snap right into place. While using the foundation brush, we did find it took a little more effort to maneuver the brush along skin. Tip: Keep a light hand and use gentle motions while the brush head goes to work.
The bristles are supersoft, making this one ideal for those with supersensitive skin. In the end, you’re left with a flawless base. ($69 for starter set, blendsmart.com)
Best Electronic Makeup Brush No. 4: Doll 10 BlendSMART Rotating Foundation Brush System
The Doll 10 blendSMART Rotating Brush delivers results that are very similar to the blendSMART 2 (pictured above). This electronic makeup brush rotates at 360 degrees. Foundation blended well, but we did notice a little shedding of the bristles. The operating motor is also a bit loud. However, it’s a great pick for someone who may be new to applying makeup and wants a simple no-frills option. ($69, doll10.com)
