There’s an Instagram With 800,000+ Followers Dedicated to the Best Jawlines
There’s just something about a strong jawline. And followers of one popular Instagram account clearly agree.
For those obsessed with all things beauty and style (ahem), Instagram can provide an almost endless stream of eye-catching visuals and quick-look inspiration. (Case in point? Meet your spring makeup muses, courtesy of social media.) For others, it can even provide the perfect platform for declaring their love … to a certain aforementioned body part.
Let us introduce you to @jaw — an Instagram account dedicated solely to beautiful jawlines, which has managed to accrue more than 850,000 followers with its steady stream of largely jawline-focused images paired with always admiring, often funny text.
“The best jawlines on Instagram are posted here!” its bio proudly proclaims above a grid of copious photo evidence supporting that assertion.

Why, exactly, do we find strong jawlines so attractive? People with an angular face are thought to be generally more assertive, plastic surgeon Barry Weintraub told YourTango, while good chin projection signifies success and control. For men, in particular (and this popular Instagram is populated almost exclusively by pictures of men, though the occasional female face does make an appearance), a strong jawline is associated with masculinity — a traditionally covetable trait that has even led to an increase in specific types of antiaging procedures among men.
“Men’s faces tend to be flatter and wider” as they age, Terrence Keaney, MD, previously told Yahoo Beauty. “We can highlight a patient’s masculine features by recreating a strong hairline or reshaping a jawline, which actually makes the patient more manly.”

When it comes to women, a V-line chin, a jawline that is more pointed and defined, is what’s in, thanks in part to the South Korean belief that the shape is more youthful.

But sometimes, it’s OK to stop wondering why and to simply enjoying the view: a parade of powerful jawlines, expertly curated for your escapist perusal. There are many celebrity cameos, too.

But mostly, there are just lots of reasons to start reconsidering the importance of a simple jawline. Paired with a hoodie, even. You can never go wrong when you have the right hoodie.
