Marc Jacobs has just announced Bette Midler as the second face of his spring/summer 2016 ad campaign. Midler joins Lana Wachowski, a trans woman who Jacobs says he was introduced to via YouTube in December 2012, and comedian Sandra Bernhard as the newest faces of the brand. “The spectrum of individuals photographed in our Spring/Summer 2016 ad campaign represent a celebration of my America,” Jacobs said on his Instagram. “In collaboration with photographer David Sims and stylist Katie Grand, the people featured in our campaign personify this collection of fashion through their individuality. Collectively, they embody and celebrate the spirit and beauty of equality.”

Midler, who turned 70 in December, isn’t the first woman of a certain age to step in front of the camera for a brand. NARS used Charlotte Rampling for it’s fall 2014 campaign, Joan Didion was tapped by French brand Céline for it’s spring 2015 campaign, and Jacobs tapped Jessica Lange for his first Marc Jacobs Beauty campaign in 2014. Most recently, L’Oréal named 69-year-old Susan Sarandon as it’s newest international brand ambassador.

“To her beauty, her brass, her glamour. To that energy, vitality, verve, nerve and curve… I’m so happy to share this beautiful portrait by David Sims,” Jacobs wrote. It remains refreshing to see these women representing the most luxurious fashion and beauty brands and it’s clear that beauty transcends age.
