Celebrating Chanel’s Iconic ‘Vamp’ Nail Polish

Chances are you first fell in love with Chanel’s Vamp (called Rouge Noir overseas) nail polish after spotting it on Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction in 1994. The color made its debut on the fall/winter Chanel runway that same year and the black-red shade quickly became a must-have, taking the place of classic reds and baby pinks that had long been the manicure go-to.

When Vamp hit shelves a year later in 1995, it was an instant sell-out. The shade wasn’t just for rebellious girls either, everyone (including Madonna in her “Take a Bow” video) was embracing the dark hue and it’s one that we still see today, especially during the fall and winter months. And now, 20 years later, Chanel is celebrating the iconic shade with the Vamp Attitude collection.

The perfectly timed holiday collection includes a mascara, liner, eyeshadow, and lipstick (yay!) in the classic hue, along with a sparkly gold topcoat called Lamé Rouge Noir ($27) that you can wear alone or over a coat of the classic shade.
