Do you cleanse, moisturize, and get facials for your face? According to Khloé Kardashian, intimate lady parts need the same kind of tender loving care.

Talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous; the 32 year-old Kardashian sister recently posted the steps to her vagina beauty routine on her blog — urging readers to take the time to care for bits down below — adding, “Trust me on this one, dolls!”

From the “vajacial” she recommended to “Vmagic cream,” we got to wondering: Just what are you doing to your vagina, Khloé — and is it harmless self-care, or might you be introducing health risks?

We asked a top ob-gyn, Anate Aelion Brauer, MD, attending physician at Greenwich Hospital and NYU Medical Center, as well as assistant professor of ob-gyn at NYU School of Medicine, to weigh in on each of Kardashian’s vadge picks below.

Glass Ben Wa Balls

Khloe says: “50 Shades of Grey fans know what’s up. These small weighted balls are used to strengthen and tighten. Like pilates for your cha-cha!”

Brauer says: “As a gynecologist, I wouldn’t recommend putting foreign objects in one’s vagina unless recommended by your physician or physical therapist. I’m traumatized by spending nights in the ER as a resident extracting foreign objects from vaginas — sometimes in the operating room under anesthesia. Glass objects can become lodged or even break! Kegels are instrumental exercises in keeping one’s pelvic floor muscles strong. If pelvic floor laxity persists, leading to incontinence and other issues, one may choose to consult a pelvic physical therapist who can recommend safe exercise and tools to strengthen the pelvic floor.”

Medicine Mama’s VMagic Vulva Care & Intimate Skin Cream

Khloe says: “Like Aquaphor for your vagina! It can be used in so many ways. Bonus points for being 100 percent organic.”

Brauer says: “It’s mostly oils and waxes, which are theoretically safe, just likely not necessary. If you are experiencing vaginal dryness or irritation, you’re likely better off seeing your gynecologist to insure there’s not an underlying issue that should be addressed.”

Good Wipes Cleansing Flushable Wipes for Down There

Khloe says: “If you need a little touchup on the go, these individually packed wipes are super convenient.”

Brauer says: “The ingredients aren’t listed, but many wipes in general contain propylene glycol or benzyl alcohol, which are both potential vulvar irritants. If your intention is to find a safe way to stay ‘clean’ on the good, you’re just as likely to get the same effect from chlorine-free baby wipes with minimal extra ingredients.” (We noticed that baby wipes are much cheaper too.)

Vajacial

Khloe says: “Exactly what it sounds like! A facial for your vagina. Expect exfoliation, toning and a ‘face’ mask.”

Brauer says: “It’s difficult to assess safety without seeing a specific ingredient list a spa is using. In general, vagina and vulvar mucosa can be quite sensitive to potential irritants that may be found in products used. Is this necessary? No. General maintenance just includes keeping the area clean and dry with a mild cleanser like Dove Body Wash.”
