The Fall Color That Looks Great on Everyone
If there’s one color you should be wearing right now, it’s aubergine. The deep-red, purpleish hue that sort of looks like an eggplant is actually flattering on different complexions. According to celebrity makeup artist and Honest Beauty creative color consultant Daniel Martin, what makes it work for everyone is its blue base. “It complements a lot of skin tones with its depth. Plus it’s a bit more modern and unconventional,” he says.
When Jessica Alba tapped Martin to design Honest Beauty’s Falling for You Makeup Palette, the pro was inspired by their shared love for all things ’90s — and crushed velvet from that era. So he made aubergine the star shade. “What raisin was to the ’90s, is what aubergine is now,” he says.
This fall color was not only a sexier and chicer choice, but a safer alternative. “When you’re working with clean ingredients, you can’t use carbon for black,” Martin tells Yahoo Beauty. And aubergine can read nearly black, depending on the application technique.
Another great thing about aubergine is that it can be worn as a neutral. It complements just about any other colors that you wear on your face, lips, and even nails. Here are three ways and nine products to get in on the aubergine beauty trend.
