Finding The Perfect Nude Lip Color
Bobbi Brown weighs in on the nude lip shade that’s right for you.
Every woman should have a natural shade of lipstick that she can swipe on without looking in the mirror. That perfect everyday lip color is like a little black dress’, it always works and instantly makes any woman look pulled-together.
When shopping for the perfect no-mirror lip color, I suggest going barefaced. The right shade will give your complexion a lift and your eyes appear brighter – even when it’s all you have on.
Use your natural lip color (not your skin tone) as a guide for finding your go-to nude shade of lip color. It should enhance your natural lip color without looking too obvious.
The most flattering shade will either match or be slightly darker than your lips. Bite your lips and try to match that color.
Avoid lighter shades with grey or beige undertones, as these will make you look washed-out.
When trying out different options, apply lip color directly onto lips as the same lipstick looks different on everyone. If it looks pasty, it’s too light. It is appears orange it’s too dark.
Once you’ve found the right everyday shade of lip color, experiment with deeper or brighter lip colors like red or orange. Most lip colors with the same undertone as the natural shade will look flattering.
