Get Carey Mulligan’s Retro Waves and Classic Red Lip

Suffragette star Carey Mulligan knows how to work a red carpet. The Oscar-nominated actress (and new mother) stepped out for her new film’s NYC premiere this week rocking cool retro waves and a bold red lip — the perfect fall look.
Hairstylist Jenny Cho was inspired by the vintage feeling of Mulligan’s strapless Alexander McQueen dress, so she opted for a modern version of a Old Hollywood style wave. She started by applying Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Volumizing Soufflé Mousse ($5) and a drop of Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil ($7) to towel dried hair. “I like to use a hybrid of styling products because the mousse helps create fullness, while the oil adds beautiful shine,” says Cho. Another tip from Cho? Ditch the curling iron and create your ‘S’ waves in two inch sections using a flatiron. She added texture to the hair using Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Weightless Dry Shampoo ($5) before loosening up the waves and finish with a light layer of flexible hold hairspray.
For the beauty look, celebrity makeup artist Georgie Eisdell was also inspired by Mulligan’s dress. “I wanted to keep the look classic and clean with the perfect red lip,” says Eisdell. She created the perfect canvas for the bold lip by focusing on luminous skin (thanks to the super luxe Chanel Sublimage La Crème, $390) and a slight cat eye (a bit of a Mulligan signature) using Tom Ford’s Eye Defining Pen ($56). On lips, she used Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Pirate ($36) — a deep, classic red with a satin finish. It’s time to grab your favorite red lipstick and hit the town.
