Go Totally Nuts for Coconuts

We’ve talked about the miracle of coconut oil, but a coconut is so much more than just its oil. The shell and husk make an excellent exfoliator, the water is hydrating, the meat is delicious, and the lauric acid is an effective cleanser. Not to mention, coconuts smell good. That’s why everything from cleanser to perfume is finding a way to work coconut into its ingredient list. And sure, it sounds gimmicky, but if we’ve learned anything from the world’s coconut craze, it’s that you can never have too much of a good thing. Here’s how to build your whole beauty routine around the stuff.
If you’re ever stuck on desert island, you can use a coconut shell to scrub your skin clean. But in civilization, buy Yes to Coconuts’ Polishing Body Scrub ($8). The fruit’s husk is blended with extra virgin olive oil to gently exfoliate your skin. Post-shower, slather on cult-favorite lotion Skin Trip ($10.79), it’s full of coconut oil and aloe to soothe even the most irritated skin (why so many surfers use it post-sun). Work some OGX Weightless Hydration Oil ($8) into your hair. Made with coconut oil and coconut water, this lightweight oil adds shine to dry hair. Comb it out with Cricket’s Ultra Smooth Coconut Conditioning Comb ($14). The comb is actually infused with coconut oil — did you think we were kidding when we said everything has coconut in it?
Press Eminence’s Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer ($58) into your face, and sweep on a few coats of Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water-Resistant Mascara ($14). It’s waterproof, and the coconut oil nourishes your lashes. There’s even coconut-filled eyeshadow! Josie Maran’s Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow ($18) delivers pigment, yes, but also hydrates your skin. Tarte’s LipSurgence ($24) is infused with coconut for both hydrating and anti-microbial purposes. And if you’ve made it this far, you might as well spritz on a coconut-based fragrance, like Marc Jacobs’ Daisy Dream ($76). At this point, you’re basically a walking palm tree — and ridiculously hydrated from head to toe.
