The Treatment: A blowout at The Blow Dry Bar, a new morning service Redken’s flagship salon, Cutler, on West Broadway in New York City.

The Lowdown: Blowouts have become a weekly necessity for so many New York women,” says Rodney Cutler, Redken Brand Ambassador and owner of Cutler/Redken Salons in NYC. “The opening of our new blow dry bar takes the express service to a higher standard by delivering excellent work while educating the customer on how she can achieve the hairstyle she wants and maintain it throughout the week using Redken’s Pillow Proof Blow Dry products.” Cutler salon previously opened at 10am, but now they’re adding additional hours from 7am to 10am Tuesday through Friday exclusively for blowouts. The service will be available during normal business hours Tuesday through Sunday, but if you have an important meeting or event you can choose from a menu of six styles ($50) and six updos ($60) and pop in and out before the salon gets crowded. You can book your service online at StyleSeat.com/style/blowouts.

The Backdrop: Cutler Soho, which opened back in 2005, was designed by Jonathas Lanna Valle Filho, founder of SJ2a. Now four styling stations located at the front feature iPads loaded up with the blowdry menu.

The experience: Stylist Amy Moscowitz sat me down and discussed styling options. I am not a blowout person—I’m a low-maintenance wash-and-go type—and I hate that every stylist always tries to make my straight hair voluminous and curly. I told her I wanted loose, casual, beachy waves like their Smooth Talker option, and that I wanted to steer clear of big prom hair. She totally got it. Next we walked to the back of the salon for a rinse and the stylist explained which products she was using and gave me a quick but relaxing scalp massage. When I got back to my station, the cup of tea I requested was waiting for me. After a well-sectioned blowdry, Moscowitz got to work on the loose curls, using Redken Wind Blown Dry Finishing Spray, coincidentally a product I use regularly. She even gave me some tips on how to get the cool stylish waves I wanted—leave the top six inches and ends out of the iron—and indulged me in talking about hair trends while she worked.

The Results: There was no reason to fear cheesy overcurling with the Cutler Redken experts on hand. As industry leaders who style for editorial and designer fashion shows they know how to interpret someone’s idea and bring it to life, and that’s exactly what they did. It took longer than your average blowout—about 45 minutes from start to finish—but the gorgeous style I walked out with were well worth it.
