Jennifer Lawrence and Taylor Swift: Masters of the Long Hair Illusion
By Amber Kallor
A chin-length crop isn’t exactly the most versatile cut—it’s too short to throw up into a ponytail or wind into a chignon but too long to forgo styling entirely. Jennifer Lawrence pulled this move move at last week’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 premiere in Los Angeles. Her hair pro appears to have tied off the bottom layers into a looped pony at the nape of the neck, and teased and pinned the top half near the crown. A few face-framing pieces pulled out in front helps complete the illusion of length.
In Taylor Swift’s latest music video, “Blank Space,” she proves that girls without back-grazing strands have options, too. The singer demonstrates her range with waves clipped up, let loose, or swept to one side with a barrette. One of my favorite looks, however, has to be the faux French twist she pairs with an Elie Saab Spring 2014 black lace gown.
Who needs smoke and mirrors (or extensions) when you can simply wield a brush and a few bobby pins?
