Julianne Hough Starts 2017 Makeup-Free

What better way to start a fresh year than with a fresh face? And that’s exactly what Julianne Hough did.

On Monday, Hough shared a family selfie with her husband-to-be Brooks Laich, snuggling in bed with their two dogs. In the photo, Hough’s face is partially obstructed, thanks to the pup, but we can see enough to know that she’s makeup-free with a smile on her face. Her skin looks flawless and her naturally light eyelashes are angelic. Seriously, did she wake up like this?! Because, if so, that’s just not fair.

We shouldn’t be surprised by her natural look, however, since she did recently tell People she’s not a fan of the full-coverage look she wore during her late-teens on Dancing With the Stars.

“I’ve definitely gone for a ‘less is more’ standpoint,” Hough said. “I cut back on hair and makeup and all that stuff. As far as beauty goes, my philosophy is starting from the inside out. Being happy, having a positive attitude, drinking tons of water — happy girls are the prettiest girls.”

Hough’s fresh-faced selfie, one of her first of 2017, might be a taste of what’s to come, since she sort of hinted at a more au naturel year. “For me, I’m only gonna look like this this year and then I’m gonna look different next year, so might as well embrace that,” she explained to People. “Maybe I’m just 28 and want to stay young, so I’m not wearing any makeup because it makes me look older. Maybe it’s because I feel like I’m getting older, I don’t know!”

If we looked that good makeup-free, we’d be moving in the same direction.
