Kim Kardashian and Julia Roberts Honor Their Beauty Squads at InStyle Awards

Last night marked the first ever InStyle Awards in Hollywood, honoring stylish celebrities and the people who make them look their best behind the scenes. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Julia Roberts were on hand to celebrate the talented industry insiders. Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury took home the award for makeup artist of the year, while hairstylist Serge Normant accepted the award for hairstylist of the year, and both chocked up their success to the women who have supported them throughout their careers. After all, if you’ve ever sat in a salon chair or makeup chair, you know the bond between client and hairdresser or makeup artist is one of a kind.
Kim Karashian presented the award to Tilbury, looking glam in an all-white ensemble at eight months pregnant. She referred to the makeup artist as her hero.
“She’s inspired me when I’m really lazy and I cant do my makeup the next day to often sleep in my makeup,” Kardashian said at the award show. “And I know that’s probably the worst advice, but she has all the magic creams that you can put on the next day to make up for it… she believes that makeup makes you feel empowered and confident, and I love that about her.” Kardashian also provided an explanation for her obsession with makeup. “If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing now, I’d be a makeup artist, so I respect the work that is really put into it, and I really respect that she is so business savvy and she’s such a god person.”
Tilbury herself, got a bit choked up while accepting the award, thanking Kardashian for her kind words, as well as fellow attendees like Allesandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, and Olivia Culpo. “I owe this award to all the amazing people I work with, and their beautiful faces that they lend to me — they make me look good. And all the girls that are here today that support me,” said Tilbury. “23 years doing what I’m doing. Photographers, editors, hairdressers, celebrities, models, supermodels, all these incredible amazing people, I really owe this award to them. I’m so lucky!” Tilbury also took a moment to reflect on why her makeup philosophy has resonated so well with women. “My whole motto is, ‘Give women the right makeup and she can conquer the world. Because there are days when I wake up and look in the mirror and I think, ‘Oh my god, darling, it’s not a good look.’ I haven’t slept and it’s a disaster! And I put on the war paint and then I think, ‘I feel great.’ We love makeup! We’re mad about makeup! Well I am, sadly.”

Julia Roberts also took to the stage to celebrate her hairstylist and friend, Serge Normant. He was humbled and gave thanks to celebrities like fellow InStyle Awards honoree Gwyneth Paltrow and Sarah Jessica Parker for making him who he is today.
“I wouldn’t be anything without you guys,” said Normant. “Honestly, being able to be on the same path and being allowed to work on your manes, and you giving me faith in me — for a little boy coming from north of Paris to new york and LA — it’s a big deal.” He was especially touched by the heartfelt words Roberts said in her speech. “Julia, I love you with all my heart, and I know you said the most amazing things about me, and I want to say I adore you and you have made me a better person as well — I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t know you.”
