Lily James is Taking Over as the New Face of Burberry

Burberry announced today that Lily James is the new face of their My Burberry fragrance line, and some changes are in store for both the brand and the British actress. James has never fronted a campaign before, and she has some big shoes to fill. The rookie model will succeed supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne as the face of My Burberry.

James may be a first time beauty model, but she’s no stranger to magazines, and has covers like Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, InStyle, and Tatler under her belt. “I am thrilled to be officially joining the Burberry family,” James says. “I am so proud to be British, so it really means a lot. Shooting my first campaign was so special – I don’t want to give away too much but I had a lot of fun showing a different side of myself…”

The Downton Abbey actress’s debut campaign was shot by Mario Testino and announces the launch of a new fragrance, My Burberry Black. The fragrance can be purchased at Harrod’s and will be available globally in August. Inspired by the iconic Heritage Trench Coat, the “intense and sensual new fragrance for women” comes in an amber colored bottle and has notes of jasmine flower, peach nectar, vanilla, and candied rose. We wonder if My Burberry Black will be as iconic as the trench it was inspired by. The fragrance designer, Burberry’s Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey shares James’s enthusiasm about the campaign and the collaboration. “I’m so delighted to have worked with the very lovely and clever Lily James on our new My Burberry campaign,” says Bailey. “I have admired her work for quite some time and was bowled over by her wonderful charm and her warmth when we met, so it was a treat to have had the opportunity to collaborate on this shoot together.“ James looks fantastic in front of the camera and will continue the legacy fellow British actors Emma Watson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Douglas Booth as faces of Burberry.
