Matt Damon’s Manbun Took 12 Hours to Create
Stop everything you’re doing and look at this photo of Matt Damon and his manbun.
When you’ve recovered, know this: The finished product required Damon, 46, star of The Great Wall, to sit patiently for nearly a day while stylists carefully coiffed his hair.
“I mean, they put 700 extensions in, it took 12 hours, and then I had to try and keep them in,” Damon said in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “By the time they cut them out, it was like a rat’s nest. I took a picture of it. I think there was stuff living in there.”
In the 2016 film, directed by Zhang Yimou, Damon plays a European warrior imprisoned at the Great Wall. It’s unclear what role his manbun played, but it’s not the first time the actor has sported the style.
In August 2016, he rocked the bun for a “Jason Bourne” press conference in China (below).
And in 2015, while promoting “The Great Wall” in Beijing, he casually committed to the ‘do with a long, flowing ponytail.
Why Damon wears a manbun in his off time is a mystery, but he might be taking cues from his Hollywood peers: Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Orlando Bloom have all taken part in this beauty trend.
No matter your feelings on the manbun, a man who can endure 12 hours of grooming deserves a beauty award, in our book.
