Melania Trump Has an ‘Incredible Sense of Humor,’ Her Makeup Artist Reveals
Nicole Bryl has been working with Melania Trump for a decade. And she was tasked with handling the first lady’s glam for the inaugural weekend.
The verdict, regardless of what you think of her husband’s politics: spectacular. The first lady looked glamorous, both in her sartorial choices (Hervé Pierre for the inaugural balls), which Vanessa Friedman of the New York Times called an “elegant, unexpected dress,” and her understated, dewy makeup.
Melania Trump seems poised in person, but Bryl has a different take on the former model. Bryl says she has “an incredible sense of humor. No one can make me laugh as much as she does. Her quick wit, coupled with her extreme elegance and grace, is simply the most charming combination,” Bryl tells Yahoo Beauty.
Trump has a specific idea every time she puts together an ensemble, figuring out her look from head to toe. It makes Bryl’s job easier.
“She has absolute, superior taste and an impeccable sense of style. I find this inspiring as an artist, and it fuels my creativity every time I do her makeup,” says Bryl. “Her vision of how she wants each look to develop is always spot-on to me, which makes this collaboration click beautifully.”
Before an event, Trump tells Bryl what she has in mind. Then, on the day of the event, they spend a few minutes discussing the details “to make sure we are all on the same page, and then we begin. Since I have worked with her a long time, I know how she likes things,” says Bryl.
The two have a relaxed vibe together. It takes Bryl about an hour and 15 minutes to get Trump ready for a major event, which is on par with the time needed for most other high-profile women; generally, a full glam session for a red carpet takes about two hours. Trump is “always appreciative” of her beauty squad, says Bryl.
“Our makeup time is mostly a quiet and relaxing experience. It’s her time where she can review her upcoming work for the day and my time to focus 100% on perfecting the look,” says Bryl. “On more casual days, when there is less of a time constraint, we catch up on life and laugh a lot.”
Trump’s inaugural makeup look was designed around the sky-blue Ralph Lauren outfit she wore for the swearing-in. And her go-to product is Urban Decay Naked Ultra Nourishing Lipgloss in Lovechild, which retails for $20.
