Makeup artist Nicole Bryl first met Melania Trump on set at a People magazine cover shoot 11 years ago and she's served as Trump's go-to makeup artist ever since. Bryl recently revealed what it's actually like to work with the future first lady in an interview with WWD. Here's what she had to say.
1. They do not discuss politics while Bryl does Trump's makeup. Instead, Bryl says they discuss Barron's schooling, fashion trends, Bryl's skincare line, and "philosophical thoughts on life in general."
2. Trump's look is being decided on by a creative team next week. Once they collectively decide on what she'll wear, the rest of the look will follow.
3. Trump doesn't care that designers don't want to dress her anymore. Bryl says that although it doesn't bother Trump in the slightest that designers who formerly wanted to dress her are now boycotting, everyone who knows her is "flustered" by it.
4. Bryl focuses the most on Trump's skin. Trump might be known for her smoky cat-eye, but Bryl spends the most time on achieving a "gentle, flawless glow" for her clients.
5. Bryl isn't nervous about doing the makeup for a first lady. She says she feels "comforted" when working with Trump and the title change will just be "icing on the cake."
6. The makeup artist studies photos and commentary of Trump's fashion and beauty. She even takes note of the lighting used at each event so she can continue to perfect Trump's look.
7. Bryl now has to go through extensive security to work with her longtime client. She says the biggest change is that she now must be vetted and cleared to work with her in Trump's home, travel with her, or even stand near her.
8. Bryl will continue to evolve Trump's look over time. And she's certain that Trump's look will become iconic.
