What a difference a year makes for Miley Cyrus. Last year, she was coming off her controversial, twerktastic performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Now, she’s raising awareness—and crucially, much-needed funds—for people living with HIV/AIDS. Cyrus is the new face of MAC Viva Glam, following in the footsteps of Rihanna before her.

Cyrus will front a global campaign for the brand’s next iteration of Viva Glam lipstick ($15) and gloss ($16). Both are hot pink (what, you thought she’d go for something subtle?) with packaging “signed” by the star. As always, every last cent of the selling price of Viva Glam goes to help people affected by HIV/AIDS. Those lipstick sales add up, too; the campaign has raised nearly $340 million since its inception.

Cyrus’s Viva Glam campaign and products will roll out in January of next year, but the star is already putting her money where her mouth is. Last night, she gave $500,000 to support amfAR (The American Foundation for AIDS Research). “If I’m going to have a voice, I would like to start an open dialogue about prevention and awareness and how people in the world have been affected by HIV and AIDS,” she said at the gala. Seems like “just bein’ Miley” is more socially conscious—and generous—than ever before.
