Model Hailey Baldwin's Guide to a Chill Fashion Week

There are about a million reasons to notice Hailey Baldwin. The last name comes from dad Stephen, the lithe 5’9” frame comes from a decade of ballet. She has tousled blonde hair and pillowy lips, over 500,000 Instagram followers, and a best friend named Kendall Jenner. How could you not notice her?
The fashion world certainly has. An in-demand up-and-comer like her cousin Ireland, Hailey Baldwin has become one of the season’s most buzzed-about faces. Signed with Ford Models in New York and Paris, she’s already picked up high-profile credits in magazines like LOVE and Tatler. Still in her first year of modeling, she’s been heralded as one to watch by Style.com and Elle.com. Not too shabby for someone a few months shy of her 18th birthday. There’s still one big event Baldwin hasn’t tackled though: fashion week. “I’m looking forward to hopefully walking in my first show,” she told us in between castings. “I have yet to do that.” Somehow, we have a feeling she won’t have to wait too much longer. Here, her guidelines for a week that’s as serene as it is stylish.
The best thing about modeling is… getting to portray different characters, different scenarios, and different looks. If I were to lay out all of the shoots that I’ve done since I started, I’m a different character in every single thing. It’s cool to be able to transform in front of the camera.
I fill my bag with… a phone charger, ChapStick, face moisturizer, and hair ties.
My go-to outfit is… black jeans, black shirt, leather jacket, chunky boots.
The only shoes I’ll wear are… I really do wear boots all the time, even in the middle of the summer! I’m never not in some sort of boots, but I do like a heel if I’m going to dinner.
I snack on… Nature Valley granola bars; they’re crunchy. I keep those with me.
Two weeks out… I just make sure I’m eating a clean diet, exercising, and sleeping a lot. Going to castings and events can be draining, so I make sure that I sleep.
The night before… I’ll stay in with friends, have a movie night, do some face masks, and get to bed.
In the morning I eat… something simple and fast. I’m always running out the door, so I’ll grab an apple and peanut butter, or a little bowl of oatmeal.
If I have a minute to work out I… During fashion week, I don’t find the time to work out. But I do feel like running everywhere in heels and going from place to place keeps you in shape, as weird as that sounds!
You’ll catch me reading… I’ve been reading Gone Girl for the past couple of weeks; it’s really good.
The only way I can clear my mind is…if I wasn’t so busy, I would take a nap. I’m kind of like a toddler—I get worked up and then just need some sleep! But in the midst of the fashion week craziness, I just put music on.
My coffee shop order is…usually I just go to Starbucks and get a coffee. At Coffee Bean, they have an iced hazelnut blended drink that I love.
The song that pumps up my energy is… I have friends in town from L.A. right now, and we blast music in my friend’s apartment and dance around. I’ve been obsessed with “Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday” by iLoveMakonnen—Drake is on it.
My favorite part about fashion week is… I’m looking forward to seeing what that designers show this season and I’m just excited to have this experience. I don’t know what it will bring for me, but I’m hoping that it opens doors.
