Surprising CMAs Red Carpet Trend: Big Hair is Finally Over
For years the Country Music Awards were all about big vocals, big stars, and big hair. In 2012, country music queen Carrie Underwood told People that her love of serious volume hailed from her childhood in Oklahoma. “For me, it was all about country women. They like sparkles, they like big hair and they wear big hair. That was gorgeous to me and it still is,” Underwood said. She explained that it was a hard beauty habit to break. “I just feel like … maybe it makes the rest of me look smaller,” she joked. “I’m not sure of my reasoning, but that’s the number-one thing I do, when someone fixes my hair, I put my fingers in it and make it look bigger.”
Looking at this year’s CMAs red carpet, it seemed like big hair might be on its way out. Underwood traded big curls for a sleek and sculpted ‘do. Singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves opted for a retro-inspired 1940s look with waves and a bold red lip. Miranda Lambert went with a deep side part and a long bob with choppy pink ends. So are the days of perms and poufs finally over? If this year’s beauty looks are any indication, it’s the end of an era.
