Oscars' Beauty Trend: The Updo

When stars were deciding how to wear their hair at Sunday night’s Academy Awards, there’s a good chance the rainy Los Angeles weather played a role in their choice. Whether a classic ponytail or a chic chignon, the muggy weather meant a lot of hair was worn up.
Best Actress winner Julianne Moore went with a side part and simple chignon on the red carpet. Marcus Francis wanted to create a look that would still feel classic 30 years from now.
"Gone Girl" star Rosamund Pike opted for a textured bun, created by Kylee Rae Heath. The stylist used a 3/4 inch and 1 inch curling iron to create texture throughout Pike’s hair before pulling back into a bun and finishing with Oscar Blandi Lacca Medium Hold Hairspray ($25).
Hairstylist Tommy Buckett was behind Felicity Jones’ modern updo that showed off her new bangs. Buckett used Garnier Disorder Powder Wax Spray ($6) to create texture before pulling her hair into a ponytail and creating an easy bun.

Actress Anna Kendrick nailed that effortlessly sophisticated look when she hit the Oscars red carpet. Craig Gangi pulled Kendricks’ waves back into a slightly disheveled French twist. Gangi used Bumble and Bumble Does It All Styling Spray ($28) to hold her ‘do in place.
Lastly, hairstylist Robert Vetica created a 1920s inspired look for Marion Cotillard. Vetica created a low side part and used Bumble and Bumble Bb.Gel ($26) to shape the star’s hair before twisting and pinning her locks in place.
