‘Purple Unicorn’ Justine Skye Is the Beauty Chameleon You Need to Know Right Now
Justine Skye is an R&B singer whose hit single, “U Don’t Know,” was released late last year by Jay Z’s label. But the 21-year-old is social-media famous for her signature flowing violet mane, which has garnered her the fitting nickname “the Purple Unicorn” — and her unique look and talents have landed her two major beauty gigs in just one week.
Mega-hair brand Dark and Lovely recently tapped the songstress to become their latest hair color ambassador as well as the muse behind their newest Go Intense hair color shade, Passion Plum.
“My hair color is super important to my look because I feel like it helps kind of define who I am. It’s like a characteristic of mine that makes me feel comfortable and different from the rest,” Skye said in a recently released video from the brand. “Being a part of the Dark and Lovely family is an honor. As a dark and lovely girl, I love what they stand for, and I love that they make products for women of color,” she says.
Skye’s one-of-a-kind look also just landed her a spot in MAC’s new Future Forward collection, among other musical up-and-comers such as Dua Lipa and Lee Hi. MAC senior VP and creative director James Gager recently told Billboard, “It feels like a great thing to be able to support artists who are breaking through but aren’t necessarily at the top top, to push them forward.”
Available on April 13, Justine’s Iridescent Powder is available in a soft purple shade with a pink pearl-like shimmer that can be used for highlighting. The product will come in fun sparkling packaging with her name in a slanted font on the top.
