Rebecca Minkoff and Essie Team Up For Killer Nails

“We all know that nails are fashion nowadays, so why not have a fashion designer in charge?” asked Essie’s lead nail artist, Michelle Saunders, backstage at Rebecca Minkoff’s fall 2015 fashion show. Just today, Essie announced Rebecca Minkoff, the designer and owner of the eponymous fashion label, as its new Global Color Designer. The two brands began working together at New York Fashion Week in 2012, and since then their relationship has blossomed into a synergetic, creative combination of accessible on-trend style.
Minkoff’s debut partnership with the brand is their Spring 2015 Flowerista collection, hitting stores in March 2015. “I have always had a lifelong passion for vibrant nail color and nail art—they are the perfect accessory and offer every woman another unique way to express herself,” says Minkoff in an announcement today. Minkoff has become a style mogul since she launched her first five-piece apparel collection in 2001. Today, she’s the number one independent accessories designer in the United States with five worldwide retail stores offering state-of-the-art interactive technology.

Minkoff’s fall collection drew inspiration from rocker Patti Smith and her memoir Just Kids, which highlighted her life in New York City in the bohemian ‘60s and ‘70s. Celebrity manicurist Saunders created an edgy chevron nail to complement the mod hair and makeup. “First, you apply one coat of Essie First Base Base Coat ($8.50) to your nails. After it dries, you apply one coat of Mademoiselle ($8.50),” Saunders told Yahoo Beauty. “To make the zigzag pattern, draw a reverse V-shape line on the middle of each nail using one coat of Berry Naughty ($8.50). This should be very easy to do because the width of the stripe is the width of the polish brush! Next, draw the same reverse V-shape line on the nail using one coat of Midnight Cami ($8.50). Don’t forget to top it off with Good to Go Top Coat ($8.50).”
Saunders kept the pedicure simple with a single coat of Berry Naughty ($8.50). “We want to keep the attention on the hands holding Rebecca Minkoff’s popular handbags,” she said.
