#TBT: A Beauty Ad from the 1960s

If the fall 2015 runway taught us anything it’s that the past remains a strong influence when it comes to beauty. The catwalks were rampant with long ‘70s inspired waves and groovy cat eyes. But when we look back at the advertisements of those bygone days, there are some questionable beauty attitudes present.
This Yardley of London advertisement reads, “She couldn’t fix a proper cup of tea. She even beat him at darts. But he loved her madly because of her English Eyes.” Translation: you can make up for being a bad housewife and for not letting your boyfriend win at darts by looking pretty. We will take Twiggy inspired lashes any day, but will leave these attitudes in the past.
