The Cure for Cracked Cuticles
One of the most annoying winter skin issues is dry, cracked cuticles. Moisturizing won’t repair splitting skin, while hand-washing, dry heat, and manicures can exacerbate the issue. So what does work? My father actually taught me a DIY cuticle fix that’s my go-to. All you need is warm olive oil and five minutes, and you’re on your way to healing your skin.
Heat 1 cup of olive oil until warm (not hot). Pour the oil into two soup bowls (about ½ cup for each).
Soak your hands for five minutes making sure your nails and cuticles are completely submerged in oil.

Remove your hands and rub the remaining olive oil into your skin, taking care to massage the area around the cuticles.
For extra dry cuticles, dip hands into warm olive oil for a second time. Remove, and cover hands in saran wrap. Keep hands wrapped for five to ten minutes. Take off the wrap and rub the remaining olive oil into your skin.
Try this treatment about three times a week until your skin is completely healed. As a preventative step, you can do it every two to three weeks.
