This Woman Shares Makeup-Free Selfie to ‘Imagine a World Where We Grow Up Believing We're Enough’
It’s pretty hard not to notice the explosion of the makeup-free movement recently (all starting with Alicia Keys, of course). But other than the celebrity support the movement has clearly gotten, more and more public figures—specifically makeup artists—have stepped up to show off their bare faces, too.
Beauty vlogger Taylor — or “ThaTaylaa,” as she goes by on social media — recently shared a makeup-free selfie revealing her acne. She captioned the image: “Imagine a world where we grow up believing we’re enough. Freckles, acne, dark skin, light skin, boy, girl, curvy, thin, gay, straight, we’re enough. Let’s create that for our children, and work towards it every day.” See the picture for yourself, below:
While the post may seem like a nod toward giving those with acne more self-confidence, it actually goes much deeper than that. Taylor seems to be using her bare-faced selfie as a way to get her audience to embrace everyone, sans discrimination or judgement, no matter what they look like.
Many beauty vloggers choose to only post images of themselves with full faces of makeup, but Taylor actually posts bare-faced images quite often. And plenty of public figures are joining her, taking to social media to expose their “flaws” in an effort to normalize them and help expand society’s view of what’s beautiful.
Recently, Chrissy Teigen posted an image of her skin breaking out post-pregnancy on Instagram, Ashley Graham posted a picture of her cellulite, and Hugh Jackman posted a selfie showing off his skin cancer scars.
Their point being: No one is perfect, and instead of covering up our flaws on social media, we should be celebrating them.
