The Women's General Strike is Set for March 8
The organizers behind last month's epic Women's March are ready to take things to the next level.
After announcing plans for a nationwide women's general strike earlier this month, the people behind the Women's March have officially set the date for March 8 - which is, rather appropriately, International Women's Day. Dubbed "A Day Without A Woman," the strike is meant to send a powerful message to the country and the world that women's voices will not be ignored. Unlike a protest, general strikes are much harder to ignore, especially if they have consequences for a country's economy - which is also why they can be much more effective.
"In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman," the organizers behind the Women's March wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. "We ask: Do businesses support our communities, or do they drain our communities? Do they strive for gender equity or do they support the policies and leaders that perpetuate oppression? Do they align with a sustainable environment or do they profit off destruction and steal the futures of our children?
"We saw what happened when millions of us stood together in January, and now we know that our army of love greatly outnumbers the army of fear, greed ,and hatred," they continued. "On March 8th, International Women’s Day, let’s unite again in our communities for A Day Without A Woman."
The post ends by stating that they will provide more information about the strike over the next few weeks.
