Are Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx Dating? A Look at Their Romantic Evolution
Dating someone without having the whole world know is hard enough for us regular folk, but when you're a famous actress — and one of Tom Cruise's ex-wives — the task sounds insurmountable. Enter Katie Holmes, who it seems has succeeded (for the most part) in keeping her relationship with Jamie Foxx relatively under wraps for the last two years… but it looks like that ship has finally sailed.
With numerous outlets reporting that the pair is an item — as well as a photo taken in Feburary of this year showing them holding hands and playing footsie — it's getting harder and harder for the stars to skirt the rumors. "Jamie is someone she can trust and have fun with," a mutual friend of the couple reportedly told Us Weekly. "She's getting everything from Jamie that she didn't get with Tom." The mag also added that, according to another insider, Jamie even refers to Katie using the term of endearment "my girl" — as in, "My girl is calling."
The story is being corroborated, at least somewhat, by People, though that source claims the relationship is nothing serious. "This is not some intense romance," they explained. "Jamie and Katie are friends and have been for a long time. They are two adults who are attractive and single, and so apparently conclusions will be drawn." The source again reiterated, "But contrary to those conclusions, they're not about to run off and make some serious commitment."
In the past, people have claimed that part of the reason Holmes and Foxx sought to keep their status a secret was due to Foxx's friendship with Cruise. The two met on set of Collateral in 2004 — two years before Cruise and Holmes famously wed. Since their divorce in 2012, however, it seems that Katie has been spending quite a bit of time with Jamie, as our nifty timeline of their (alleged, at this point) romance shows.
August 2013: Jamie and Katie dance, drink, and flirt at a benefit in the Hamptons.
As summer drew to a close, Jamie and Katie joined a gaggle of other rich and famous folks at the Apollo in the Hamptons: A Night of Legends benefit held at Ron Perelman's East Hampton estate. When Lenny Kravitz took to the stage, Foxx and Holmes reportedly started dancing up a storm and, at one point, the newly single Holmes even helped herself to a sip of Foxx's cocktail. Later, the Annie star moved his dancing to the stage where he recruited Holmes to join him.
But even in the midst of numerous "eye-witness" reports that the he and Holmes were flirting up a storm all night, Foxx stuck to his script, which is best summarized as: deny, deny, deny. "[The rumors] are 100 percent not true. In fact, it's quite hilarious because we simply danced at a charity event along with a lot of other people," he told the New York Post. "I had Colin Powell on stage dancing [too], so they could have said me and Colin Powell were dating," he reiterated to ABC News before adding that the story was "absurd."
January 2014: Katie reportedly flew to California to stay at Foxx's home.
According to the New York Post, Katie flew west on a private plane to stay with Jamie around the time of the Grammys. According to Katie's rep, however, her trip to California was to meet a director about a new movie project, not to spend time with Foxx. His rep declined to comment on the report at all.
February 2014: Jamie and Katie spend Super Bowl weekend together.
Though reports noted that the pair did not attend the big event together, they did claim that Holmes and Foxx spent a lot of time together in New York during the course of Super Bowl weekend. A source also added that the pair had allegedly "been seeing each other since last summer" and that they've spent time together at Foxx's mansion in California.
August 2014: Katie buys a house in Los Angeles that is reportedly not too far from Foxx's mansion.
According to People, Katie bought a house in L.A. last summer and has been seen visiting Foxx "often" at his nearby residence. "They spend hours together," the source claimed.
February 2015: The couple is caught on camera playing footsie and holding hands (though the picture doesn't surface until March).
March 2015: Numerous reports claim that Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx are a very real couple.
It appears what started as a fling has become something decidedly more. Though Katie has not commented on her relationship with Jamie one way or the other (and Jamie has officially declined to comment), she has said that she "absolutely" still believes in love. "I'm a very loving person. Of course I'm open to finding love again," she told People last year. Well... maybe she has.
