Gwen Stefani on Gavin Rossdale Divorce: 'My Life Basically Blew Up in My Face'
Time to turn that chair. Gwen Stefani opened up about her divorce from Gavin Rossdale in a revealing new interview on Monday, Nov. 2, with her fellow Voice star Carson Daly on 97.1 AMP Radio.
The newly single songstress reflected back on her tumultuous summer, when she and the Bush rocker shocked everyone in August by announcing that they were splitting after 13 years of marriage.
“My life is so extreme right now,” Stefani, 46, told Daly. "My life basically blew up in my face. And now I’m in this new life, and it’s pretty awesome I have to say – I’m so inspired and being back on the show, and just being in a new place. Everything just feels new. I just feel inspired. I don’t know how else to describe it.”
“You talk about it: While shooting this show, you went through such a traumatic experience,” Daly noted to the Voice coach.
Stefani interrupted and joked: “I feel like I’m going to throw up right now.” She then opened up briefly about attending Jared Leto’s Halloween party this past weekend with fellow coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.

“I was literally that party girl that you hear about when their life blows up, and you’re like, ‘Yeah! I’m going out! Like, watch me!’” Stefani replied. “We’re just trying to have fun. You know?”
The mom of Kingston, 9, Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 20 months, reportedly settled the terms of her divorce with Rossdale, 50, last month. The experience of splitting from her ex after more than a decade of marriage inspired Stefani to open up through her music. Daly directly asked Stefani if her divorce heavily influenced her new singles.
“You just said the D-word on the radio!” Stefani joked in response. “Wow … does anybody have a bucket? This is like, way more intense than I thought it was gonna be. I don’t know. I’m just trying to explain it to everyone that this is crazy what’s happening to me. Everybody that hears a song, and I don’t have anything to hide. Everybody knows what my life was like before I was married. Could you imagine what my life is like now? It’s crazy!”
Stefani recalled what it was like getting back to work after her painful split. “On the way into the studio the first time, I didn’t want to go. I wanted to be in my bed, like, crying,” she shared. “And I did, I cried all the way down to Santa Monica, driving to Santa Monica, and I was like, 'What am I doing? Why am I doing this?’”
Once she arrived, Stefani sat down and let it out. “That feeling of being able to write again, that’s everything to me,” she shared. “My value on myself is by songwriting … I think within 8 weeks I had 19 songs … I was like, 'Listen all I wanna do is I just want to say the truth. I just want the truth to come out. I just want to be honest and real that represents where I’m at right now.’”
Stefani described the process as “very spiritual,” which was a topic she discussed directly with Us Weekly last week.
“You know what? I haven’t really been working on my physical appearance,” she told Us at the 2015 UCLA Neurosurgery Visionary Ball in Beverly Hills, on Thursday, Oct. 29. “I’ve been working on my spiritual exercising and, like, really trying to connect, and be grateful and considerate, and living in the present.”
