Joey Fatone Is Selling Hot Dogs at a Mall in Florida

Joey Fatone is opening a hot dog stand in Florida, and it couldn’t have a more perfect name.

The NSync singer took to Twitter on Monday to announce the opening of his Orlando-based hot dog and Italian ice shop he plans to call Fat One’s.

Former bandmate Lance Bass called the clever play on Fatone’s last name “the perfect amount of wrong.”

According to the press release, the eatery is expected to open at the Florida Mall in August and will serve 100 percent Angus beef hot dogs in a variety of styles, including a platter of five mini hot dogs appropriately called “the Boybander” — a nod to the five members of NSync.

“After years of working on television food shows, I’m excited to open this new venture which is a combination of who I am, where I’m from and where I’ve been,” Fatone, 39, said in a statement. “Launching Fat One’s at the Florida Mall, where I roamed as a middle school kid, felt like a perfect fit for our first location.”

The former Dancing With the Stars contestant told Delish.com he kept his New York roots in mind when choosing which foods to serve in his new eatery.

“Being from Brooklyn, hot dogs were a staple during my childhood, and we always ate Italian ices to cool off on hot summer nights,” Fatone said. “Looking forward to bringing a piece of my childhood to Orlando.”

Fat One’s isn’t Fatone’s first foray into the food world. He hosted the snack food competition show Rewrapped, which aired on the Food Network in 2014, and Fatone has demonstrated his culinary prowess on other programs on the channel including Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off and Chopped All-Stars. With this latest restaurant endeavor, however, Fatone is now joining the long list of other celebrities turned restaurateurs such as Danny Trejo, and Mark and Donnie Wahlberg, to name a few.

Trejo’s L.A. taco joint, Trejo’s Tacos, is a hit among West Coast foodies who want to chow down with “that cool dude from the Machete movies.” The stand offers 10 different tacos, including an Austin-style fried avocado taco and a vast selection of vegan options.

Meanwhile, Mark and Donnie Wahlberg (who happens to be another former boy-bander) teamed up with their brother chef Paul and started a restaurant chain in Massachusetts called Wahlbergers where they serve up — you guessed it — burgers and more. And they’re growing fast. In March, it was announced that Wahlburgers had 30 new restaurants slated to open in seven states. We’re guessing the family’s A&E reality show, also called Wahlbergers, probably helps.

Let’s just hope Fat One’s finds more success than Flavor Flav’s Chicken & Ribs chain. The rapper had three locations in Las Vegas; Clinton, Iowa; and Sterling Heights, Mich., but all closed after a few months. The Detroit establishment was shut down in June 2013 after Flav skipped out on paying the rent. Womp, womp. But knowing Fatone’s appeal, the former ‘N Sync superstar has nothing to be worried about. We’re sure food lovers and nostalgic boy-band fans alike will be eager to buy, buy, buy Fat One’s hot dogs.
