Kendall Jenner Explains Why She Abruptly Quit Instagram

Suzy ByrneReporter

Some celebrities go public about detoxing from drugs or alcohol. For Kendall Jenner, it’s social media.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, who has risen to fame in her own right as as one of the so-called “social media models,” is explaining why her tens of millions of Instagram followers now get the dreaded “Sorry, this page isn’t available” when they arrive on her page. She’s detoxing.

The 21-year-old beauty revealed on Wednesday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show that she needed a respite from social media, so she deleted the Instagram and Twitter apps from her phone. She took it a step further by deactivating her account on the photo-sharing site, on which she had the most-liked picture in 2015, leading to the hullabaloo about her “quitting Instagram” on Sunday.

“I just wanted to detox,” Kendall said. “I felt like I just wanted a little bit of a break. I’m always on it… I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing, I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at. I felt a little too dependent on it, so I kinda wanted to take a minute to detox.”

Kendall devotees need not worry: This. Is Not. Forever.

“I’ll be back. I’ll come back, she said. “It’s been two days!” Kim Kardashian’s little sis then added with a laugh, “Withdrawals are starting to occur.”

Although Kendall is aware that everything the Kardashians and Jenners do make headlines, she still didn’t think her social detox would be a biggie.

“It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that,” Jenner said after Ellen mentioned it was covered on CNN. “Like, I have no idea how that [happened]. I mean, like, I guess I didn’t expect it… I honestly didn’t even think anyone would care.”

She continued, “My friends kept texting me and my family members, and I was like, ‘How does everyone know?’ And they kept sending me links to, like, CNN and all these things and I was like, ‘Why is this even that big of a deal?’ It’s so crazy.”

Kendall has been enjoying real life during her mini-hiatus from social, including bonding with her new niece, Dream Kardashian. During the interview, she also talked about meeting her brother Rob’s baby with Blac Chyna, and says she’s very happy for her sibling.

So, life is good — she’s just not bragging about it on Instagram. For now.
