Lena Dunham: Mocking Donald Trump’s Appearance Isn’t Helping Anyone

Donald Trump has found an unlikely ally in Lena Dunham … when it comes to defending his appearance, at least.

The liberal actress is never shy in speaking out against the president, but she says slamming his looks is helping no one. When we do, Dunham explains, “We’re subject to the same forces of evil that cause him to rate women zero through 10.”

“I wish less people would talk about how Donald Trump’s hair is bad and how he has a small penis, because he has such worse problems than that,” Dunham said at Wednesday’s “TimesTalks: A Final Farewell to the Cast of Girls” event. “All he does is talk about women like they’re objects. It doesn’t reclaim our power to talk about him like he’s an object. It doesn’t reclaim our power to insult his physicality.”

Dunham, 30, continued, “We have enough cogent, thoughtful, philosophical [arguments] to fill a bible, so why not use those instead of, like, ‘That orange piece of s***.” The Girls star explained she tries “to talk to people the way I would want to be talked to and to hear them.”

Dunham was one of the many celebrities who participated in the Women’s March on Washington, and she made a point to explain she was marching for women everywhere, even those who may not share her political views.

“The thing that I want to say is that even women who don’t like this show, even women who voted for Trump, even women who don’t identify with needing the services of Planned Parenthood, we are still fighting for you as a group,” she added.

Celebrities speaking out against President Trump is nothing new, but Hollywood’s involvement in politics has been a hot-button topic as of late. Last week Dunham got heat for posting — and deleting — an Instagram message that compared Trump to a disappointed daddy.

“Donald Trump only recognizes the humanity of women who look like his daughter/But after this weekend he better know that we are all his daughters. Rebellious ones/The kind who steal the car keys and the wallet and sneak out before we can be stopped,” it read. “The kind who f*** with his friends and flirt with his enemies/The kind who turn it out and rage out/The kind who don’t give a s*** what our daddies think and recognize the way so many fathers have failed us.”

Dunham later explained why she deleted the post, writing, “When it becomes a thread of people spewing hatred and division (not thoughtful dissent) and the word slut is all over the comments and you’re like ‘this party cannot be saved, the DJ is bad and the guests took whack Molly.’”

At least she didn’t call him an “orange piece of s***.”
