Officers Investigated Amber Heard’s Abuse Claim Against Johnny Depp But Found No Evidence of Crime, LAPD Says
The Los Angeles Police Department investigated Amber Heard’s domestic abuse claim against Johnny Depp on May 21, but found no proof that a crime had occurred, a police spokesman tells PEOPLE.
“On May 21, 2016, officers responded to a domestic incident radio call…” LAPD Sgt. Marlon Marrache says. “The person reporting the crime [Heard] did not insist on a report and no report was warranted. There was no evidence of any crime. A crime did not occur so the officers left the scene and left a business card.”
Marrache adds that if there had been any signs of abuse, officers would have conducted an investigation, regardless of what Heard said had happened.
On Friday afternoon, Heard emerged from court with a bruise under her eye, which she claimed in a protective order filing was caused by Depp allegedly throwing an iPhone at her face last Saturday. She also submitted several photos of herself with a bruise on her face as evidence she was assaulted, according to court documents.
Marrache says that the 911 call came at night, but they were unsure who made the call.
“It could have been the neighbor or it could have been her,” he says. “The police and her were at the scene. He [Depp] wasna€?t there.”
Heard filed a domestic abuse claim against Depp on Friday, less than a week after the actress filed for divorce.
A photo submitted to evidence shows Heard with a black eye, and video of her leaving the courthouse revealed visible bruising.
Depp’s attorney filed a response claiming that Heard is attempting to force a resolution to their divorce case by alleging domestic violence. Reps for the star have not specifically commented on the domestic violence allegations.
On Thursday, Depp spoke out for the first time since Heard filed for divorce on Monday, saying, “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life.”
