La La Land had audiences all around the world falling in love with Emma Stone, including one Phoenix high school student who hopes to catch her eye by channeling his inner Ryan Gosling.

Taking over-the-top promposals to new levels, 17-year-old Jacob Staudenmaier recently recreated the opening scene from La La Land in his high school's parking lot in order to ask the Best Actress winner to prom. Clearly well-aware of how unlikely it is she'll say "yes," Jacob is all self-deprecating humor and charm as he dances and sings his way through the choreographed number alongside his friends.

Sure, the video is a little cringe-y at times, but as Emma herself sang: "Here's to the ones who dream, foolish as they may seem." Best of luck, Jacob!

Update 4/7, 11:10 a.m.: Appearing on Good Morning America on Friday, Jacob revealed that Emma Stone responded to his promposal in a letter. Unfortunately, she's going to pass so he's going to go with his friends:

Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received. I can't tell you what an honor that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I'm in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom, and I'm grateful you thought of me. Thank you. P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma.

Update 5/3, 6:00 p.m.: Emma may not have been able to make it to Jacob's prom, but she did do something to help make his night just a little more special.

According to the Daily Mail, the Oscar-winning actress sent the lucky high schooler a boutonniere and matching corsage for him and his date, classmate Caitlin Teefy. She also included a sweet note with the flowers that read, "Jacob, A little something for you and your lucky date tomorrow. Have a great time! Much love, Emma Stone."

Based on Jacob's photo from the evening, he still had an amazing time - even without Emma on his arm.
