3 Holiday Side Dish Ideas That’ll Take Center Stage

Here is a trio of simple, fast holiday side dishes that will be a sure hit at your table.

Honey Orange Glazed Carrots

  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter

  • 1 Tbsp honey

  • Shallots, sliced

  • 1 ½ pounds carrots, peeled and cut in half lengthwise

  • 1 orange

  • 2 Tbsp parsley, chopped

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan.

  2. Stir in the orange juice and honey.

  3. Bring this to a boil and add in a few shallots.

  4. Add in the carrots.

  5. Season with salt & pepper to taste.

  6. Peel a few strips off of the orange and cut into small slices.

  7. Cover the carrots with water and let it steam until all of the liquid has evaporated.

  8. Add in the parsley to finish.

Brussel Sprouts

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

  • 2 shallots, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1 generous pound brussel sprouts, trimmed and quartered

  • 4 Tbsp butter (½ stick), cubed

  • 1 Tbsp salt

  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 Tbsp parsley, chopped

  • Pinch fresh ground pepper

  1. Begin to heat a sauté pan on medium-high heat.

  2. Add in the olive oil, shallots, brussel sprouts, salt & pepper.

  3. Sauté on medium-high heat until the sprouts are cooked and turn a brilliant green.

  4. Take the brussel sprouts out of the pan and place on your serving platter.

  5. Melt the butter in your pan.

  6. Add in the lemon zest and parsley.

  7. Heat this quickly and pour over the brussel sprouts.

  8. Finish this dish by squeezing lemon juice over the top.

Dutch Oven Potatoes

  •  1 stick butter

  • 1 Tbsp garlic, minced

  • 20 small white potatoes

  • 1 Tbsp parsley, chopped

  • 1 Tbsp dill, chopped

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  1. Melt the butter in a dutch oven.

  2. Toss in the garlic.

  3. Once heated, add the potatoes. Season with salt & pepper to taste. Toss the ingredients together.

  4. Cover the dutch oven, stirring occasionally.

  5. Allow the potatoes to heat until brown and soft.

  6. To finish, add the parsley and dill, and stir gently.
