10 best fictional Vice Presidents in movies and TV, ranked

In the movies and on TV, Presidents of the United States receive all the attention. From Abraham Lincoln to John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, it’s the Presidents that get the big feature film treatment. But what about their Vice Presidents who often serve so loyally? (Where’s that Dan Quayle or Mike Pence movie, anyway?) Sadly, as is true in real life, they are usually reduced to second banana status, often depicted as either ineffectual lapdogs or power-hungry back-stabbers.

Nevertheless, there’s been a surprising number of Vice Presidential characters who have broken through over the years in both film and television, usually played by consummate actors who know just how to make an often-forgotten character pop on screen. From an honorable woman being wooed for the job, to a power-mad Vice Presidential couple, to an epic nincompoop with an unparalleled talent for failing upward, these VPs have made their mark on audiences around the world.

(Sorry, Dick Cheney and Al Gore.)
