10 Celeb Couples Who Got Married Young And Admitted Whether They Regretted It Or Not
Marriage is beautiful, but also a big responsibility. It can also be more challenging when you make that commitment, depending on how young you are.
1.Actress Olivia Wilde got married at the tender age of 19.
Wilde married Tao Ruspoli, an Italian prince who was also a filmmaker, in 2003. They pulled the plug on their marriage in 2011, divorcing after eight years.
Since her split from Ruspoli, the Hollywood movie star has been honest about what it was like jumping the broom at such a young age.
"I really had a sense that I had stunted my growth. I think that's one of the things that made me feel so uncomfortable in my marriage," Wilde revealed in an interview in 2012."It was really no fault of my husband. It was me realizing that I had sort of arrested development. I knew the only way I was going to grow the f**k up was to learn to take care of myself," she further explained.
2.Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe married each other when they were in their 20s.
When they wed, Witherspoon was 23, and Phillippe was 25. Their marriage happened in 1999, shortly after their hit movie Cruel Intentions premiered.
Although the two weren't married long, splitting in 2006, the Sweet Home Alabama star doesn't regret getting married at 23.
Especially since her and Phillippe's union resulted in their two beautiful children, Ava and Deacon.
"It’s about that next chapter in your life. What do you do when you get to 40 and you made a decision when you were 25 to get married and have kids? I got married when I was 23 and had two kids by 27… Sometimes it’s good to know yourself," Witherspoon told Hello! in 2017.
"I would never change anything!"
3.Cher got hitched at 18 to Sonny Bono.
Cher and Bono made their love official in 1964 when she was 18. The successful singing duo couple lasted until1975.
The global icon remained close to Bono until he died in 1998. Bono's tight reign on the songstress contributed to the couple's divorce.
"He didn't want me to grow up or have any freedom," Cher told Parade in 2010. "I wasn't allowed to do anything except work. We worked more than we lived."
4.Aaron Taylor-Johnson married his wife, director Sam Taylor-Johnson, at 22.
Aaron stands by his decision to marry young despite several disapproving of his relationship with Sam, who is 24 years his senior.
“What you gotta realize is that what most people were doing in their 20s, I was doing when I was 13,” he told Rolling Stone UK in an interview. “You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me.”
5.Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown got married at just 20.
Millie is now the wife of rock star Bon Jovi's 22-year-old son Jake Bongiovi as of this year. The young actress remains steadfast in her choice to get married young, despite critics who claim she's "too young" to be married.
“It’s like—I know I should make this movie now. I know I should write this book now. I know I should do this now,” she said in a Glamour interview.
“It’s not because I can’t do it in 10 years; of course I can do it in 10 years. But why, when I know that it’s going to work now? Just like Florence [her beauty line] will be there in 10 years. You’ll be able to see my movie in 10 years on TV. And I know that Jake and I will be okay.”
6.Macaulay Culkin married Guiding Light actress Rachel Miner when he was 18.
Miner was also 18 when she and Culkin married in 1998. They divorced in 2002.
The Home Alone star's spokesman, Paul Bloch, told the Post in 2000 that the pair's impending divorce was "very amicable" and that they "remained the best of friends" when they temporarily separated that year, per CBS.
7.Kate Hudson got married to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson at 21.
The two jumped the broom in 2000, and divorced in 2007 after having their son Ryder.
Hudson doesn't regret her marriage to Robinson in the least bit.
“I didn’t question it for a second. We were so connected,” the actress said in an interview. “Chris taught me so much about love and connection. It was just a wonderfully passionate relationship.”
8.Solange Knowles married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Smith, at 17.
Knowles and Smith tied the knot in 2004, and welcomed their son Daniel "Julez" Smith Jr. the same year. The songstress and Daniel Sr. divorced in 2007.
She revealed to Essence that she learned much from her short-lived first marriage.
"Going through a marriage and a divorce—which I essentially did by 21—will give you an insane amount of perspective on life," Knowles told the news outlet.
9.Drew Barrymore got married to bartender Jeremy Thomas at 19
The Charlie's Angels star wedded in 1994, and divorced after one year in 1995. Since their split, Barrymore has seemingly poked fun at her quick marriage to Thomas in the past.
"Usually people live together first and then get married," the star told People shortly after getting hitched. "I guess we're doing it the old-fashioned way. Kind of."
10.Country music star LeAnn Rimes walked down the aisle with Dean Sheremet at 19.
Rimes and Sheremet were married from 2002 until 2009. Rimes' affair with Northern Lights co-star Eddie Cibrian led to her and Dean's split.
Even though the singer's cheating scandal caused the downfall of her first marriage, she doesn't regret her actions.
"That's just not me. What happened is not who I am, period," Rimes told ABC's Robin Roberts of the affair on All Access Nashville in 2010. "But I do know how much I love him. So I've always said I don't live my life with regret. I can't."
