If you’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy for the entirety of its run, you’ve probably noticed a few things that remain consistent: Characters come and go through a revolving door, dozens of relationships have begun and ended and the staff has dealt with every medical case imaginable over the past 20 years.

About the character: Paulson portrays a young version of Meredith Grey’s cold mother, whose only focus is her career as a surgeon.

She has a stable of people that she uses over and over again and she never limits you as an actor. You stay in her brain and she will give you something that’s entirely different from the last thing that you played.”

What she said about the role: Roberts couldn’t share much about her role when asked at the time, but explained “It is a serious problem for me. I can’t say much more than that. You will have to see it to believe it. The language I use in it is pretty wild. It is a character who is very different from myself.”

What he said about the role: “I feel like most actors pursue the best writing, and I just think she's [Shonda Rhimes] a great writer.
